Question about Paris Apartment
Hi!
Has anyone stayed in the following apartment: http://www.parisaddress.com/paris-ap...php?ref=TOUR61 It will sleep our family of 4 and seems very affordable. We are going to Europe July 2008 and are just starting to look at plans. Does anyone have a suggestion for an apartment under 1000 euro for a week? Thanks! Michele |
There are lots of nice apartments to rent in Paris, and you've got plenty of time to look. The furniture in that one looks very uncomfortable. Too many folding chairs, and one bed looks like just a mattress on the floor.

While the location is excellent, that apartment does not look very comfortable (only 400 sq ft?). The furniture looks dreadful.
No elevator, second floor (which is one, maybe two, staircases). Do you really want to climb up and down those ladders? I'd want to see a photo of the bathroom. You have plenty of time - keep shopping. |
What I meant was - it doesn't look like 400 sq ft.

Check this out:
http://www.vrbo.com/79965 Great location in the Marais, two beds in the LR and queen for two in the bedroom, nice details, big windows etc. 800E. See also: http://www.vrbo.com/100027 for 900E. |
Not that apartment, but we had a very nice experience with parisapartments.com.

It is pretty cheap because it is dreadful. That's one of the worst I've ever seen, it looks like a basement with a few pieces of cheap furniture thrown in, and they've built in platforms to hold a few beds (those they call lofts). Also, the location is awful being right on the quai in front of Notre Dame. The only thing that wouldn't bother me is being on the third floor without an elevator. There's no decent supermarket around there, either, it's all souvenir and cheap fastfood places.

I have used Parisaddress recently (March) as have our friends and we were all very happy with the agency. We rented the 75 Rue de Seine apartment in March. It was clean, well equipped, and they were prompt and followed through on all policies. I would use the again.
With that being said, I am not impressed with that particular apartment. It looks very uncomfortable. I would say keep looking ... some good recommendations here already. |
What it comes down to is that the original apartment should be priced about half what it is! Then would be a great place for students or other budget travelers. It seems, compared to other places, to be overpriced for what it is: no comfortable place to sit, etc. And note that photos don't feature any windows, which probably means they aren't worth featuring.
Great seeing the variety of viewpoints and analysis = and the recommendations, as always. |
The lack of windows in the photos would be a real red flag for me. Does this appartment, in fact, have any windows? Note also the discrepancy in the info: At one point the appartment is reputed to be on the third floor, yet below under "equipement," it's said to be on the second floor. Which is it?

Thank you all for the advice! I agree, the furniture did not look very attractive, but there were just good reviews on the parisapartments website and the price was right.
I am looking into the apartment in the Marais district -- it looks really nice! Is this a good part of Paris to stay in for a week? Any advice on Rome??!! We are also going there. Thanks again, Michele |
hi MS - The apartment in the Marais is a very nice area. I prefer the 6th (St Germain) but the Marais is a good area as well.
Before I rented an apartment this past March, I searched all the posts here for "paris apartments" to get recommendations or lessons learned. There are a few agencies that got negative reviews. VRBO and parisaddress get good reviews. There are others that consistently seem to do well - might want to try that to at least eliminate the ones with negative reviews. |
I'm just beginning my search for a place to stay while in Paris and would like to know what neighborhood to concentrate my search in. It will be just me (Mom) and my 14-year-old daughter. We will want to be centrally-located, but we don't know to what. I also want to be sure the area is safe. What areas should I stay away from? Where would be a good place to stay?
