Question About My US Passport for Visit to France

I will be visiting Paris for the week between Christmas and the New Year, and can hardly wait. I haven't been there since 2008, and that is way too long. I just realized that my passport expires on July 13, 2016. That is 10 days more than six months from my return date of January 3, 2016. Am I still cutting it too close, or should I get an emergency reissue of my passport? Given the tragic events in Paris last month, I expect that customs will be extra careful, but I also don't want unnecessarily relinquish my current passport so close to my departure date of December 26th. Thoughts?

You only need three months validity beyond your return date, not six.

This is not something to be concerned about. Your current passport is fine.

Looks like you need 6 months validity at entry, and 3 months beyond your departure: http://travel.state.gov/content/pass...ry/france.html

According to the French Consulate websites three months after you leave is correct. This is a link to the Vancouver consulate. For some reason the Chicago one won't link.

You say "I expect that customs will be extra careful" but assume you know it's immigration which deals with people while customs is concerned with baggage.

Have a wonderful trip.

Thank you all very much for your help. I am relieved that my passport does not need to be updated and instead will look forward to enjoying my time in the City of Light.
