Question about my train ticket from Rome to Venice
 
I recently just purchased 4 tickets ande seat reservations from ROme to Venice (point to point tickets) with europeonrail.com. They were fed-exed to me about a week ago. I'm just confused about something as I received only 1 "ticket." On that ticket it says 4 adults, group leader name (my husband), & the 4 different seats we chose when we booked.
But don't all 4 of us need a ticket? Or it the case where, we go to the train station & then show them what we have & they issue us 4 individual tickets?
I was a little worried that maybe I had purchased only one ticket but the amount we paid was 4 times the cost of one ticket & the information on the ticket we did get says 4 adults with 4 different seats.
Is there anyone who can please explain this to me?

Yes, one ticket covering four people. And three pieces of paper saved.

I should have pointed out that you just board the train at your carriage and find your seats. The ticket(s) aren't checked until after the train has departed, sometimes not long before arriving at the destination.

Be sure to validate your ticket before boarding the train. I am not sure you need to do it on every train, but we got a fine on a regional train for not validating our ticket. We actually did validate it before boarding but never checked to see if the stamp was printed on the ticket. It turned out not to have the stamp(maybe no ink in the machine?)You can stamp your ticket in a slot in a little yellow machine near the trains or the big machines where they sell self ticketing. One ticket is good for 4 people.

I wonder why when folks buy a train ticket or pass from a company they just don't ask that company questions like these - that would be the logical thing to do. Though the above posters all gave the correct answer I'd always call the ticket issuer and ask that question.

Well, PalenQ, you're right, but reaching a "Customer Service" human being can often be a tedious exercise. I don't mind these types of questions.

That's one reason i always encourage folks to order things like this from an agency that will actually talk to you by phone - BETS (800-441-2387) is the only one i know but if there are others let me know - otherwise you are stuck finding it impossible to ask questions about your purchase - thank god there is Fodor's and experts like you.

Trust me- for our 2 week vacation in Italy & Greece I have sent many many emails asking questions such as these. Its not that easy to find an answer that way. I'm still waiting for a response from British Airways. Besides- I thought that this was a place I was allowed to ask questions like this as I see other people do it all the time & I have no problem answering them myself if I can help out.

How long did it take you to receive your train ticket from EuropeOnRail.com from the time you purchased it? I leave in 1 1/2 weeks and needed to purchase a ticket...though, I'd prefer buying them from EuropeOnRail.com since Trenitalia.com is always giving me problems.
