DH was going to be in the flotilla on a cornish lugger called Barnabus, but when someone pointed out that being in it might not be so much fun as watching it, he decided not to bother.

as a fully - paid up republican, you can imagine how excited I'm getting. watching Andy Murray grimace his way round a french tennis court will do me fine.

You certainly take your pleasures seriously.

Hence "once aboard the lugger and the girl is mine" (perhaps you should be relieved?!)

annhig, your DH made a wise choice IMO.
There are gondolas on the Thames being battered by the wind and rain, I bet the gondoliers are wishing they were in Venice...
Just another typical June day in London!

ooh- spolier alert!

we're recording it so we can fast forward through it and miss the commentary [for which I suspect a sick bag will be required].

Patrick - you ain't getting this "girl" on board no lugger!

You're not joking. I swear they've employed Alan Partridge for some of it. It's all a bit breakfast TV. Or even Nationwide, if your memory goes back that far.

Ha, ha we turned the sound off and with Radiohead playing in the background we made up our own commentary.

nice idea sassy cat.

will the archers do?

annhig Jun 3rd, 2012 08:14 AM

or a spot of Herr Handels' Water Musick?

nona1 Jun 3rd, 2012 08:19 AM

I gave up at Sandy Tostvig with smarming smirking luvvies all laughing at each others' jokes.

I lasted about 15 minutes before I got bored with it. You'd need a serious boat fetish to get through five and a half hours of this. Even all the royals looked dead bored apart from Prince Phillip, who was the only one who looked like he was genuinely enjoying himself.

sassy_cat Jun 3rd, 2012 08:56 AM

annhig, funnily enough DH voted for classical music in the background but Herr Handel would have been a Germanic overload.

Now playing Florence and the Machine, Ceremonials
It adds a nice touch of baroque.

nona, the Queen did look rather grim!

Really? german music for a german monarch sailing along the Thames?

i think that it's pretty apt!

Grassshopper Jun 3rd, 2012 09:49 AM

I thought it was fun to watch.

latedaytraveler Jun 3rd, 2012 10:25 AM

All I can say is GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!

The old girl looks great and carries herself with such grace...

annhig Jun 3rd, 2012 10:31 AM

pass the sick-bag, Patrick.
