QUEENS DAY!!!
 

I will be coming from Lisse to Amsterdam on Queens Day, does anyone know if there is a special schedule that day? I am staying at the airport that day and would like to get to the city to enjoy the festivities but I hear that taking a cab into the city is impossible. I also am wondering if I take a train into the city will I be able to get back, I have an flight the next morning.

When we were in Amsterdam on Queens Day about 10 years ago, it was so crowded that it took us about 30 minutes to walk one block. I have never seen such a crowded place in my life.

As Lynlor says, the streets are packed. You should be able to take a train (an easy 20 min. trip) Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to get back and the crowds will be intense.<BR><BR>And wear orange!

Amsterdam on Queen's Day is packed. If you arrive before 11 AM, trains shouldn't be *too* crowded. Two years ago, it was so busy at Central Station around 6 PM with people trying to get home, that they decided to close the station. Many people couldn't leave Amsterdam that night. Last year, the situation was back to normal again, but allow plenty of time and expect *huge* crowds.

Service is always extremely frequent throughout the country and will probably be reinforced on Queens Day, not the other way around. <BR><BR>You can check train schedules on a specific day at:<BR>http://www.ns.nl/domestic/index.cgi<BR><BR>IME, trains are not as punctual as in many other countries however and crowds could be a problem as mentioned. I was in Amsterdam for Queens Day last year and am going again at the end of April. It's a fantasic street party not to be missed! It is crowded but we had no problem walking anywhere all through the city center. Rembrantplein is not to be missed, the concert there was great. Enjoy and see ya there!

dd, there is always a very slight chance that the crowds will be so enormous that the train station will be closed. Either leave the city by 5pm, or have enough money to take a cab back to Lisse - finding one won't be the easiest thing in the world, either. Can you spend your last night in Amsterdam instead of Lisse?

I am staying at the airport that last night 4/30. I am concerned about going from Lisse to Amsterdam that morning. I assume I will go to the hotel (at the airport) that morning then try to get into Amsterdam late morning. I would stay for the day then head back to the airport for my flight the next morning. It seems as though I should leave before the masses and leave before 5pm. thanks

I have been twice to Amsterdam on Queen's Day...It is definately something to see, parties, drinking, people, music, food...However, it really isn't my favorite time to visit...Too many people for me...But I am glad I had the opportunity to see it...As for transportation...There is no problem outside of Amsterdam, but as far as I remember all Central Trams do not run on that day, so if you have a long way to your hotel, that could be a problem...Next day, street cleaners are out and everything is back to normal! Enjoy!!

One of the miracles of modern engineering occurs each year on Queens's Day. The ability of an amateur road crew to completely pave Damrak from the train station to Dam Square - 600 meters 6 lanes wide - with flattened Heiniken cans in the course of an afternoon and of a professional crew to remove them by the next morning. Amazing.
