Quarantine for people reaching uk from switzerland

According to the British Embassy in Berne, everybody flying from or via Basel airport to any airport in the UK will be put into quarantine after arrrival.
Basel is among the cantons with the deeepest number of new Covid19 infections in Switzerland.
The Cantons of Basel Stadt, Basel Land, Jura and the neigbour areas belonging to the Cantons of Aargau and Solothurn had alltogether less than 10 per cent of all new infections during the last 2 weeks.
The Lake Geneva area got 35 per cent and the Zurich area 30 per cent.
People boarding their plane at Geneva or Zurich must not go into quarantine.
In the whole country, there were about 200 daily new infections during the last 2 weeks (25 per million inhabitants).

I understand it is because the actual airport is technically in France.

Like Geneva airport, Basel airport has a entry from Switzerland and a entry from France. The Swiss entry is the main entry at both airports.

It doesn't matter whether the rule about Basle airport is inconsistent with other rules about Switzerland: the Foreign Office (https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/switzerland) is clear that ALL travellers from Basle-Mulhouse airport must go into quarantine on arrival in the UK

Neckervd appears to be thinking in German. In English, the sentence "People boarding their plane at Geneva or Zurich must not go into quarantine." is incorrect. What IS correct today is that, on arrival in the UK, under current UK regulation, people boarding their plane at Geneva or Zurich do not have to go into quarantine. "Sie mussen nicht" does NOT translate into English as "you must not", but "you do not have to"

It's all a mess. Schools are open here and teachers are wearing masks or there are plexiglass partitions. Even as infections rise, we do not want to go into lockdown again. Personally, I think we're all doing our best just trying to live with the virus until a vaccine has been developed.

Hopefully soon the vaccine will be ready and we will all travel without restrictions! You are right, it doesn't make sense another lockdown, the mortality rate is very low to justify these draconian measures.
In Australia and New Zealand the situation is pretty bad!
