quaint town near Shannon airport

We are looking for a place to stay our last pm before heading home. I heard Adare is lovely and the castle looks great but pricey. Any other suggestions that would be within an hour of the Shannon airport?

We stayed 1 night in Ennis and thought the town was a great introduction to Ireland on arrival.
Close to the Shannon airport, we shopped in some cute shops, had lunch of typical Irish fare.
I can’t remember the B&B we stayed at but we could walk in town to dinner at the Poets Corner of the Old Ground Hotel. Picturesque pub with great food and live Irish music. At the time I remember thinking that
the excellent quality of the food was not what I expected. I guess I thought we’d be eating corned beef and cabbage every day.

We stayed at the Old Ground in Ennis after landing at Shannon. Visited Cliffs of Moher from there.

We enjoyed our stay in Adare at the Dunraven Arms after arriving in SNN. We had a wonderful meal across the street at The Blue Door.

TPAYT since corned beef and cabbage isn't Irish I would have been amazed if you found it anywhere. Bacon and cabbage yes, but not beef, certainly not corned. It was only on arrival in the US that the Irish used beef as it was more readily available than cured pork/bacon.

hetismij2…..interesting to know about the corned beef. Again, the food was so good inIreland. Just something we didn’t expect. Steak, seafood, gorgeous salads AND Dover sole for breakfast at Shelburne Lodge in Kenmare. Nothing I would ever think to order for breakfast but when it was included in the B&B menu I couldn’t resist.

Another vote for Ennis and the Old Ground Hotel -- perfect for flights into or out of Shannon.

Another vote for Ennis and The Old Ground. We loved the food and the music at Poet’s Corner.

TPAYT- I was just thinking of the Shelburne Lodge. The hosts were so kind and their breakfasts were so very delicious.

Corned beef and cabbage is an American dish associated with Ireland. You will not find it in Ireland.
