Teacher, Let me suggest if you are going by coach that you enter Orvieto from the west side of the tufa bluff on which it sits. Just drive around the bluff and follow signs for the Duomo---there is easy access by road and you can park in the lot behind the Duomo. Better yet, drive about 4 km west of town and get the fantastic vista back at the Duomo sittting the bluff--there is a viewing lot where you can park.

Joining as we have same request - a small town to visit. These posts are very helpful. We are spending a week in Florence and a week in Positano in July. We have been studying italian and dream of nice conversations with locals...obviously we understand we are staying in tourist locations but want some wholesome italian experiences....don't want to drive so saw Bologna idea and the info of fast train from Florence very helpful. So where do we go to practice italian...

better make a new post folks do not respond much to 5-yr-old threads.

For train info check www.trenitalia.com (lots has changed in last 5 years) and www.ricksteves.com - www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.seat61.com - latter great info on discounted train tickets.
