Quaint town in Normandy for train/car day trips to Paris, Loire, Dieppe

Hi, am looking for advice on a town in Normandy where my family can rent a 5-6 bedroom house for a week or ten days. We will have cars. Would like walking and biking into a town for shopping. Some of us will want to take a train into Paris for day trips. Some of us will want D-day tours. Mont St. Michel is also a desire, and if not too far away, a day trip to a Loire castle. After a week in Normandy, we would like to move to a destination in the Dordogne to serve as a base for the prehistoric cave sites, and stay there 3-4 days. We would fly in and out of Paris.

Any advice is appreciated.

There are a number of "quaint" towns in Normandy, both upper and lower. You may want to look for somewhere where you have easy access to the train, and skip driving into Paris for a day-trip. It doesn't make much sense. Look for someplace close to Rouen.
