Quaint Hotel Recommendation in the Marais

Hello fordorites...does anyone have a suggestion for a quaint hotel int he Marais district. Would like to keep cost to about $300 a night but would look at higher if worthwhile. Any and all suggestions appreciated!

Thank you.

I have two suggestions for you and I have stayed in both. The Hotel du Bourg Tibourg is certainly charming with dramatic decor but some of the rooms are tiny and I mean tiny.

Another place to look at is the Hotel de la Bretonnerie. Very charming and less expensive than the Tibourg.

Was the Bourg Tibourg noisy? I've walked by there many times and thought what a great location, but I was concerned about late night activity.

I stayed at the Caron de B.

Be aware when they say courtyard, it's really an air shaft decorated.

Ackislander:

Thank you for bringing that up. There is a bar directly across the street and, yes, noise could certainly be an issue in a street facing room.

I thought of Caron de Beaumarchais right away, too, cigalechanta.

It's been a long time since we stayed there, but it WAS really quaint. Wonder what the rooms are going for now?

Even the so-called "superior" rooms are small, mikster, but we found the location to be ideal for our needs.

Alessandra, starting at $130.
It was $125 when I was there.

You were so kind to the poster about Paris taxis.

Thanks all. Appreciate all the good suggestions.

Jump to the bottom of the thread and then scroll up until you come to where I have listed all recommended hotels by district and have provided websites (December 31st). Look at the hotels in the 4th and 3rd districts. Happy Travels!

Correction: Scroll to January. I started the lists for both the Left Bank and the Right Bank on Dec 31st, but did the Right Bank one on January 01st. Happy Travels!

Great...thank you!

Define "quaint", please.

Not trying to be snarky, but it really puzzles me when folks use this term. Do they mean "old fashioned", with doilies on the chairs in the lounge? A grandmother behind the desk with a sleepy cat perched beside her? A bidet in the bathroom?

What?

It's like when people ask for recommendations for a hotel in the "moderate" range.

I second the hotel bretonnerie. We stayed there on our first visit to Paris together back in 1998. That trip was the beginning of our addiction to Paris.

Nukesafe--
Good point!

However, I took "quaint" to mean something that wasn't all modern furniture, artsy decor, etc. And your doily reference probably wasn't far off.

That's why Caron de Beaumarchais immediately came to mind not only for me but also for Cigalechante. There WERE doilies (plus rickety antiques) in our rooms, and there was an old guy with lovely gray hair(I think it was the owner) in the reception sitting behind an antique desk while Mozart recordings played in the background.

That's pretty quaint.

So if you want "quaint", check out these pics: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...de_France.html

Again, mikster, even though the TripAdvisor reviews are good, I can't personally vouch for the hotel again because I have not stayed there since sometime in 2001.

Thank you and yes by quaint I do mean homey and not modern. Thanks again. Will check out Caron as well.
