Purchasing Train Tickets Online
I have spent the last two hours trying to buy train tickets from Edinburgh Waverly to Leuchars. I've visted every website out there, and they all give me the same problem. The Postcode isn't recognized, so I read on another post to use one from the UK. Did that, but when it comes time to buy the tickets using my credit card, every site gives me an authorization error. I've tried entering my address in California but leaving the postal code as a UK one, and I've tried putting in my real code. Finally, I tried calling the phone number listed for problems on the First Scotrail site, and it wasn't in service. Please help me!

No saving buying those tickets in advance so you may as well buy on the day (if you are going to St Andrews you can get a combined train / bus ticket which you have to buy at the station)
http://www.firstgroup.com/scotrail/c...001&ms=sub BUT you could try the NXEC site - http://www.nationalexpresseastcoast.com/ as that has had some recent success |
we tried to buy national rail tickets in england last year online. turns out that they do NOT accept canadian/american credit cards (would be nice if they said so on their website). the call centre is only open certain hours and given the time difference, it can be tricky. but we ended up buying our tickets over the phone.
this is the number i found for first scotrail: 0845 601 5929 but maybe you could try national rail? i believe first scotrail operates under national rail. +44(0)20 7278 5240 good luck! |
nolenee: as explained - there is absolutely no reason to pre-purchase tickets to Leuchars.
lilaki: Yes, they do accept US issued credit cards. Some sites don't accept US postal codes - in the case you just use the postal code of your B&B or hotel. Then collect the tickets at the station. But again - that wouldn't be necessary for a ticket to Leuchards . . . . . |
and there are probably buses that go direct Edinburgh to St Andrews, if that is your destination
|
There are buses BUT they do not go direct and are substantially slower than the train - besides going by train means you go over the Forth Rail Bridge

Thank you all so much for your help! This has been enlightening to say the least. I've decided to wait to buy the tickets so long as you're sure they won't cost substantially more than ordering them in advance. Besides, now I have more flexibility with my departure times. Thanks again!
