Purchasing Berner Oberland Regional Pass
 

Hi all! Trying to get all my ducks in a row before heading to Switzerland on the 15th and I do have one question. Will I have to wait until I get to Interlaken before I can purchase my BO Regional Pass at the rail station there, or can I get it at the rail station at the Zurich airport?

I would *guess* that you would have to wait to buy it in Interlaken. However, here's information from the BORP site:

The regional pass can be purchased at the:

Reisezentrum BLS, Genfergasse 11, 3001 Bern

or at rail or boat ticket offices or from travel agencies.


You can also order your Regional-Pass by fax. Please use this form.


Shipping time and charges:
Switzerland 3 business days / CHF 5.-,
foreign countries 10 business days / Europe CHF 10.-, others CHF 80.-

Unfortunately, it's too late to order the Pass to be shipped to your home, but you may want to call them to ask.

swandav, thanks for the response. I had already seen all that info from the BORP site. I was unclear as to whether the rail station at the airport would be included in the "rail or boat ticket offices". I'm with you however in thinking I'll more than likely have to wait until I get to Interlaken.

I wasn't going to order it on-line because of the rather steep service charge.

It will not be a problem to wait until I get to Interlaken, I was only going to try and save myself a little time by having it "in hand" once I left Zurich.

Thanks again for the response. I absolutely cannot wait to see Switzerland AND have over a week of R&R!! I badly need it.

You know, I had a change of heart after I posted my message (bad timing!). I would think that the rail station at the Zurich airport would be included in the "rail or boat ticket offices" named by the BORP. Even if not, there is an SBB travel shop next to the ticket counters, and surely they would count as the ". . . or travel agencies," yes?

I would take a minute or two to try while at the airport -- save you some hassle as you change trains at Interlaken Ost.

Can we hope for a trip report in a few weeks??

Swandav-I'll definitely check both places at the Zurich airport. I had already thought of that!! Great minds think alike!

And yes, after I get home and get back to normal (if that's ever possible!) I'll fill you all in on the trip. This will actually be the first trip that I'm staying in one place for more than 3 days and not constantly going from city to city and I am really looking forward to it. I understand I'll have a balcony at my little effeciency apartment in Wengen and I'm looking so forward to relaxing out there in the evenings with a glass of Swiss wine and a book. Can you tell I'm ready to be a bumm for a week?

Compare the BOB pass with the Swiss Flexipass for 3 days out of 1-month for $150 p.p. on a Saverpass - give you free Zurich-BOB travel each way and then 50% off everything for the whole month even on days you don't use the pass for free travel.
Take BOB pass price and compare to Swiss - 100% coverage to and from Zurich and one day to use in BOB - on boats, in full to Wengen, Murren, Gimmelwald (one of world's most exhilirating aerial cable cars go up there from the Lauterbrunnen Valley) or day trip by boat on Lake Brienz to the famous Ballenberg Open-Air Museum - on three free days of Swiss Passes you also get a free museum card good for admission here - probably $10-15 value or practically any museum in Switzerland. And figure 50% angle - BOB pass could still be best deal if you are doing a passel of gondolas, etc.
Swiss Pass prices cheaper now in US for some reason - about $15 or more - for current prices: www.budgeteuropetravel.com - whom i always recommend for their expertise.
But BOB pass could be better, i'm not saying that just that don't ignore Swiss Pass, especially it's 50% off aspect on everything that moves in the BOB - except cows i guess.
