PULA TO VENICE BY FERRY NEED HELP
 

Hi I'm travelling from Pula to Venice by ferry it is my first time that I'm travelling through a ferry I'm so excited but i don't know about the check in and boarding proceedure and and i want to know that if i have to show my passport right after i board into ferry or i have to show it when i will be landing at the venice ferry port?

Why do you need to know now when you need to show your passport? I'd guess you'll need to show it when you board at least. Maybe when you get off in Italy, maybe not.

When I travel, I expect to show my passport often - not just at official border crossings but sometimes to verify my identity when I board an international bus or ferry. So I have my passport at least available so I don't have to dig through a bag to find it.

Each ferry has different requirements for how early you need to arrive before departure. For an international ferry, I'd expect to need be there at least 30 minutes before departure, perhaps earlier. Depending on how early you arrive in Pula itself, you might check locally at the ferry port before day of departure, if you can't find this information on their website.

Just keep your passport safe from pickpockets but easy to access when you need it. Pickpockets are a real concern everywhere in Europe. Use common sense.

It is a catamaran, not a ferry. I have not taken it but I have read that you have to show your passport when you board, but then when you arrive in Italy there is a more intense passport check. They would stamp your passport in both places.

I was thinking about doing the catamaran for a trip next month but between reports of the wait getting through immigration in Venice and the early departure time from Pula, I decided to use goopti. Perhaps you can come back and comment on your experience.

I think the distinction between "ferry" and "catamaran" is lost on many people. A ferry takes both cars and people and tends to be slower but perhaps more leisurely and pleasant. You can usually sit up on the open deck and enjoy the view and the ride. A catamaran is passengers-only, no cars, and tends to be faster than a ferry but perhaps not with an open deck, so you might have to enjoy the view from inside. And a catamaran may in my experience be a more bumpy ride. You trade speed of travel for some of the fun and comfort.

I still haven't had a chance to try GoOpti! I thought I might back in May but wound up using DRD from Venice to Ljubljana yet again. (Was going to try a train through Trieste and stop there for a few hours but my nflight was late and I missed the train I wanted, and the DRD van pulled up at the Mestre train station...)

It is indeed a catamaran, quick, bumpy and you are inside throughout the journey. Expensive compared to other options too.
