LOL, I am wavering too. I read you thread, Eks, and I now I am thinking to scrap the Masseria Abate to stay farther north, perhaps to Lama di Luna, to have lunch at Masseria Barbera and spend some time in Trani.
Then I fell in LOVE with the Torre Mazzia, but I sadly don't think we can fit that into our budget.
So I think I need to do more research and start a new thread too. We will barely have a week, and I want to spend one night in Matera, too.

Hi again, Dina!
You cannot go wrong with Lama di Luna. But staying in Trani would be a great option, too.
There seem to be at least 3 superb restaurants in the countryside near Lama di Luna and within a half hour's drive of Trani. You know about Masseria Barbera (never would have found this gem without Franco's help; somehow I missed it in the SlowFood guide)and probably about Antichi Sapori, but there is also La Tradizione in Minervino.
I will follow along on your new thread and we can chatter on...(!!)
Torre Maizza IS very expensive and there are so many good places in that part of Puglia that will cost far, far less.
