Puglia - Advice Please

Hi There,

I have about 2-3 spare days to spend in the Puglia region. My plan is to base myself in Bari, explore Bari, and then use one day to explore Lecce. Before you tell me "you need 2 weeks to see Puglia, not 2 days", note that I will be returning in the future and have these spare days and am dying to see a few places in Puglia. Are Bari/Lecce good to see? Should I base myself in Bari or Lecce if I'm flying into Bari, and then will be moving onto the Amalfi coast.

Its 6 for one and half a dozen for the other. I prefer Lecce but Bari works well. If you are using trains then Bari is better. Buses or cars either will do.

Lecce old town is a joy, Bari more gritty

It takes less time to go to Matera in Basilicata, and I personally think it is the far more interesting place than Lecce, which some people find a joy and others not so much. Taking a look at pictures of both might decide the issue. Also, you are going by public transporation, than Lecce might be more convenient -- but maybe not. I had a car while in the area, so don't know about public transport options.

With only 2 or 3 days and a flight into Bari, basing in Bari with a day trip could work. FWIW, I loved seeing Lecce during both the day and the evening / night, so an overnight there would be worth considering IMO.

Bus, car, or train.

If your final destination is the Amalfi coast, you could spend your last day at Matera and continue then by bus to Ferrandina and by train to Salerno.

We were in Puglia in March 2105. We were in Lecce and Matera. Matera is not to be missed, took our breath away.
