Public Travelling In Vienna ?
Would someone help me to get information about public travelling inside the city of Vienna. Is there reduced fare tickets for students coming froam abroad ? Can we purchase reduced fare tickets for 14 days or weekly tickets ? Can these tickets cover zone 1010 and neighboring zones ?
Thank you very much for contributions.

You can buy passes ranging from 72 hr to 1 month. You probably will want the eight day pass. These passes can be purchased at any of the train, U-bahn, or S-bahn stations from very convinient machines that have an English menu. No student discounts, but the prices are very reasonable. The passes cover all public transit, trams, buses, U-bahn, and some S-bahn for the entire city including 1010. If you go outside the city on the S-bahn, like the airport, you must purchase a seperate ticket. Remember to validate your passes when you go to use them and keep them with you at all times as they do sometimes have inspectors that will check...very expensive fine if you don't have a valid pass.

Dear Operamen,
Thank you very much for your kind information. While surfing throgh the internet I discovered the following lines at http://www.cityairporttrain.com//langen/
"From Vienna to Vienna airport and back with the whole family for only 25 Euros. The We-Are-Family-Ticket is available at our ticket machines."
Does this mean that I can purchase this ticket for my family of three at the Vienna Airport for 25 € and use it again as a return ticket when leaving Vienna back to the the Airport ?
Thanks in advance again.

It looks like you can do this with that plan. However, you can catch the regular S-bahn from the airport for much cheaper, 3 euro each person, one way. It will take you about 1/2 hr to Wien Mitte (Landstrasse) station and is they way we always take. Is this your first trip to Wien? Where are you staying and when are you going?
