Public Transportation to Newgrange?

My friend and I will be in Dublin for a few days in March and I am trying to find public transportation to Newgrange on a Sunday. The train doesn’t seem to get close and the bus only runs on Thursday and Sat. Does anybody know of a cheep and fast way to get to Newgrange? We would rather stay away from a tour, we just need transportation.

Bus services are pretty limited in the off-season (which includes March). A taxi from Drogheda might be economical, split between two people. It's only about 5 miles or so to Newgrange, with regular buses from Dublin to Drogheda.

Check with the Tourist Office on O'Connell Street when you get there. I took a half-day bus tour to Newgrange and back a couple years ago, and signed up for it at that office.

Gail:

According to softguide dublin:
http://www.softguides.com/dublin/culture/outsideDublin.html
Greyline and Mary Gibbons go to Newgrange with half day tours. Lynott Tours goes there also, and there are probably about a half dozen more.

Bill

To be honest the most economical way would be to take a tour bus that goes for 1/2 day. There is no public transport "bus stop" at Newgrange. It's basicxall in farmland outside drogheda. The train and taxi is a good idea as well but I think the tour bus is cheaper and easier for what you want. Do go! I went for the first time in the summer and we loved it. My parner had never been before and loved it. It is a nicely done tour and fascinating inside.

I would also recommend taking a tour. My friend and I went by ourselves in March 2000. You can only visit the site on a tour from the visitor center. We got to Newgrange just after a tour left and would have had to wait about 2 hours before the next tour, so we just looked at the visitor center.
