Pub Reco near Marble Arch: Food important as well
Hi Fodorites,
I'm looking for pub recommendations near the Marble Arch tube stop either for lunch or an early dinner. Ideally would like to find one that has a nice kitchen and genial, conversation-friendly atmosphere for 3 women - 2 who may be coming off an Ambien bender from their flight.
A quick search on fancyapint.com list:
Windsor Castle (Crawford Place)
Carpenters Arms (12 Seymour Place)
The Dover Castle (43 Weymouth Mews)
Golden Eagle (59 Marylebone)
Anyone experience any of the above? Can anyone recommend another? Thanks in advance!

It's a slight pub cultural desert by Marble Arch - too many tourists. If you're happy for a ten minute walk or so...
The Windsor Castle is quite bonkers – small, crowded and full of royal memorabilia. It serves Thai food. Fun but not very relaxing due to the jostle. Just opposite is the Larrik, which is a bit more relaxed and does decent pub food. Nothing spectacular, just a good local pub (no tourists): www.thelarrik.com
Slightly better than either of the above is the Chapel, close by. Very nice food in a genial environment. http://thechapellondon.com/
I'm afraid I haven't eaten in your other suggestions.

Thanks Kate, We will be staying at the Marriott on Park Lane in Sept. I used to live and work in London many years ago, but don't know any of the good spots any more. Will for sure check out the Chapel. Any recommendations for good spots in Shepherds' Market (Mayfair) That area used to have some fine little bistro places, but, I'm going back a while.

If you walk down Oxford St and right by the HMV on the North side of the road there is a tiny passage. Walk through there and you will find a lovely square called St Christophers Place. Lots of funky shops and tonnes of places to eat, especially if its a nice day.
Another favourite of ours is Bodeans off Oxford St - on the south side turn right down Poland St and its a block and a half down on the left hand side. Fantastic ribs: http://www.bodeansbbq.com/

Thanks, jamikins! I turned off my computer without seeing this. Turns out, our VRBO apartment that was supposed to be near Marble Arch was changed to Holland Park. Craziness. Still, appreciate the recco!

Agree with St. Christopher's Place and adjacent James St. Be aware, though, that the HMV mentioned is no more.
On Sheperd's Market, Le Boudin Blanc does decent French food. Alternatively there is the quirky L'Autre, which serves Polish and Mexican food. The Polish options on the menu are much better, though.

For a pub in the area you could also try Guy Richie's Punch Bowl on Farm St. They also serve decent food.
