Pub near Victoria Station ?

Is there a nice pub near here? Are they all really smokey? Thanks for your help. Victoria

There is an Irish pub upstairs in the shopping mall adjacent to the station. I believe it is called Molly O'Grady's and seemed like one of those corporate Irish pubs, but it was busy. Additionally, at Elizabeth and Ebury there is the Joiner's arms. And further down Ebury (away from Westminster) is the Sundial. I don't remember much about interior-smokiness. I'm thinking there is a pub or 2 across the street from Victoria, too.

The Albert pub isn't very far away (52 Victoria St, SW1) and it's very nice.

There's a place called the William Shakespeare around the corner...I found that most of the pubs in the financial district were worthy of 4 alarms after the work day...but then again I met a few native Brits who felt our (American) goal is to make smoking illegal.

There used to be one straight out of the Front of Victoria Station. I would check luggage at left luggage (probably not there now) in he station and walk thru the parked buses, cross the street and walk in to the Pub. If i didn't have a lot of luggage, I'd even take it with me sometimes. I recall bottle glass in the windows and a really good pint of Guiness but nothing else. Anyone know if it is still there and what the name was/is? Rich

Oh . . and about the smoke . . the smoke in Pubs seems much lighter to me the last few years than it used to and many London Pubs have outside seating areas if you really need to get away from what there is. Rich

The pub directly out front of Victoria Rail/tube station (as opposed to the coach station down the street) is the Shakespeare. AVOID IT AT ALL COSTS! They have dreadful food and it is not at all a typical pub. It is really there just to catch the unsuspecting tourists coming out of the station. There are many. many nearby that are 100 times batter.

Janis is right. We had fish and chips at the William Shakespeare last fall and both were pretty soggy.

Perhaps it is the batter that is 100 times better at the other pubs. :)

I never ate there . . but come to think of it, the Guiness was a tad soggy! ! Musta gone down hill . . was a decent place when I used it in the 80's. Rich
