Pub dinner before play at Citerion Theater
Any suggestions for a family frienly pub dinner before an 8pm show time of Complete Works of William Shakespeare at the Citerion Theater (Piccadilly). It will be a Saturday night...

Thanks in advance for your input!
I am afraid not. The rents around there are too high for anybody to make money with a real kitchen and a real cook offering real food at pub prices. What you can get are meals made in a factory in the Midlands, frozen, and stored till you ask for one. What I do is go along to Shepherds Market, 400 yards north of Green Park station, to choose among the dozen or more restaurants. Or sup over the river, at the self-service restaurant of the National Film Theatre.

Please write if I can help further. Welcome to London.

Ben Haines
Nothing exactly near the theatre. Not too much to choose from. But the Criterion is right on Picadilly Circus so it is a reasonable walk from Soho and Chinatown. There you will find MANY Chinese, Greek, Italian (and a few pubs too - but not likely "family friendly" ones) that will have good food before the performance.

Try to go to the Criterion Restaurant next door for a drink after. Pricey to eat at, but worth the price of a drink to see the amazing mosaic ceiling and very unusual interior.

We had a difficult time finding a place to eat in the area - everything was an American chain restaurant. No pubs to speak of right around there. We ended up going to a really awful Italian place - I've blocked the name from my mind it was so terrible, not to mention expensive! I'd eat in another neighborhood. The Princess of Whales pub and eatery upstairs at the Embankment is great - it's across from 1 Embankment Place on a side street by the train station.

By the way, the Complete Works is great! We really enjoyed it!
