pub crawling in Loch Lomond

We want to spend the last night in the Loch Lomond area by pub crawling. We thought about staying in Luss and spending the night at the Calquhoun Arms Hotel. Does Luss have any good pubs and has anyone stayed at this hotel? Does anyone have any better ideas? Thanks for any help.

It's been a few years since I was there, but I seem to remember that there wasn't much to the town out by Loch Lomond. I think there are more pubs in Inverness. Maybe someone more familiar with the area could help.

I'm not knowledgeable about te area; but I do know that Inverness is some 160 miles from Luss and that would be a hell of a crawl!!:)

Funny, Sheila :)

lippincottfarm: do you realize how small Luss is? There are a couple of pubs nearby but not enough for any sort of crawl . . . .

Another place to Check out is the Lodge on Loch Lomond www.loch-lomond.co.uk/

I think it is a little higher priced than the Calquhoun Arms but the food is really good.

I really don't have any idea how small Luss is, but I now understand it is very small. We certainly don't want to crawl 160 miles but we do want to go to a few pubs in our crawl. The main thing is to be able to walk back to the hotel from the pubs; no driving. Since I have posted, I looked at Drymen and the Calchan inn which is supposed to be the oldest pub in Scotland. It does seem that there are a few pubs in Drymen which is on the opposite side of Loch Lomond from Luss. What we really want is to spend time at some older pubs with a history to them. The room needs to be adequate, with a good bed, but our other nights are at a luxury hotel, so we can do without for one night. I think that hotel is called the Airdensaig Hotel (Please excuse the spelling). Our last night is at the Gatwick Airport, at the LeMeriden. We stay there the night before our return flight to cut down on the rush in the morning. Thanks for any help.

Generally, your problem is that in villages the size of Luss and Drymen there would only have been one Inn so only one place can have a history.

If the thing is pubs go for Edinburgh, Glasgow or Stirling.

If it's a nice place in a nice rural village then stick with plan A and reconcile your selves to no crawling:)

Well the town by Loch Lomond that I took the bus to from Inverness was certainly not 160 miles away, so maybe I'm confused about something. The bus took about 20 minutes from Inverness to Loch Lomond, so I don't know if that was Luss or some other town. Sorry if I confused anyone.

I think I am thinking of Loch Ness. Am I confused?

Deborah: Luss is on Loch Lomond -- Inverness is near Loch Ness. And yes they are about 160 miles apart.
