Pub at Bunratty Folk Park
 

I thought I read a post regarding the pub at Bunratty. There's a lane that goes beyond the castle and park, and a B & B that someone suggested. Anyone remember this post? Or am I not being vague enough?!;-)There was also a suggestion that the pub on the folk park grounds could be accessed from the lane.....that should ring some bells...
By the way, the pub grub there is quite good...

I THINK that's the Low Road, running between Durty Nellie's and the castle; Mac's Pub is in the Folk Park, accessible by a gate from this road. There are many B&Bs down the road. You may be thinking of Bunratty Lodge or Headley Court, as they are mentioned here often. Someone mentioned Dunaree, not sure if it's down this road or not.

Sorry - I tried to post a follow up when I realized how vague I'd been - server meltdown prevented it. I was looking for the name of the B&B mentioned in the post -

I can't remember the name off the top of my head -- got it at home, BUT, they never answered my e-mail for reservations. When we were there last May, we drove past it, and their sign was down -- must not be operational anymore.

We stayed at the Bunratty Lodge this time, and we were very happy with the accommodations and hospitality. It's at the end of the road that goes between the castle and Durty Nellie's.

We went to Mac's Pub this time -- rang the bell to get into the gate and it seemed to be more of a hassle than it was worth -- all kinds of questions about who we were (obviously not local), did we have a reservation, etc. I bluffed my way in, we had lunch and a couple of pints.

I discovered a better pub that I would recommend over Mac's -- Kathleen's. It's in the Bunratty Castle Hotel directly across from the castle. Great food, prices, and atmosphere. That'll be our watering hole next visit to Ireland. ((b))

There is of course, the very famous Durty Nellie's, claiming to be one of the oldest pubs in Ireland. You can visit Mac's a night without a hassle, just walk right in. Some nights in can be great fun, other nights a bit slow. I don't remember food being served at Mac's. It is served at Durty Nellie's. I got food poisoning there, but that was hopefully an isolated incident.

Across the road is Kathleen's which I haven't visited and the Creamery which I thought served respectable pub food and they had Kilkenny Beer which is a nice option to all of the stouts.

Bunratty Lodge and Headly Court are two very nice B&Bs. The Ashgrove House gets good press. I've also stayed at the Park House which is one of the closest to the "village" and within reasonable walking distance. It was very nice and quite comfortable. There is plenty of parking as this is tour bus central.

Dunaree BB is on the Low Road there (which goes beyond the castle and park) down the street from Durty Nellies. It was extremely nice, great breakfast, very friendly hosts, large room (ours was on the first floor, 20ft from the dining room).... I highly recommend it.. Reasonable walking distance, even though the Low Road doesn't have much else but the road itself to walk on.

We ate at Kathleen's too, and was great, except for the dopey waiter we had.

I wasgoing through he posts and was surprised to see 43 responses to this post. I thought wow this must really controversial, Glad to see it was not. We did go to that pub BTW, we had a Guinness before the Banquet at the Castle. We had crisps too! No foof however. Stayed at the Bunratty Lodge too. Loved thre Bunratty area.

Mac's Pub in the folk park does lunches but not dinner. And very nice lunches they are.

We took the kids to the Folk Park in 95. Who'd a thought we'd be sitting there again 8 years later, sans kids, getting sloshed with the locals! What a night!

(BTW, they had local music there that night, but you had to be sitting at the next table to hear them. I guess a lot depends on the musicians and their instruments.)

We have gone into Durty Nellie's a couple of times but we are never sure where we should be to be served food or drink, so we always seem to leave without eating or drinking. We lunched at the Creamery last year, and it was okay. We also found a great pub right next to the river in Limerick, on the Bunratty side, that had a restaurant upstairs. We opted to sit downstairs in the bar area for a bucket of mussels that were served with brown bread. mmmmm....
