PSA - time to get tickets to Paris!

Hi all

In case you are going to Paris or even mildly contemplating it:

I just happened to idly check expedia earlier today. Fares to CDG from IAD have been north of 1600 bucks, so I was going to give it more time to come down.

USAirways must be having some sort of sale in late May because I just scored roundtrip tickets for me and my Dad, from IAD and Erie, for 640 and 675 respectively. (yes, you read that right - and late May, coming back June 8, to boot). We both have to change planes (and I have allergies to changing planes after the ill-fated flight home from Florence last New Years) but saving a grand each sure makes it easier to contemplate. Since I'm also taking Mom on a trip to France in July, this is indeed a coup.

I additionally just bought my own tickets, IAD to CDG, for July, for 865. For July, that's so dirt cheap.

This is such a welcome change from last year to Munich - both of the May tickets together are less than EITHER of the tickets for Mom and me last May.

Long and short - I just got these tickets so if there is indeed some kind of sale, get them while they are hot.

Good luck!

That is cheap! I just checked on cheaptickets.com for depart DFW-AMS and return CDG-DFW. $734.05 total on US Airways--hard to believe. I called my son's ex-girlfriend who has been checking for lower airfare for weeks. She had just purchased the tickets on 1800flyeurope.com for $1168.69 per person. She was so thrilled at first to get that price. Now she is not so thrilled. But she and her daughter will be flying British Airways. My son and I will be meeting them in Amsterdam.

flygirl, this is a good one! Just for fun I entered June 1 to June 19, two passengers, Kansas City - Paris round trip and came back with $1305 for both tickets!

Bump to top.

oooh. this is dangerous. I just looked at the weekend that I had comptemplated going in June. I repeat: June... US Air is showing $550 (taxes incl) for direct flights from phl-cdg.

I had just decided that I wasn't going... argh... now I get to go to sleep and toss and turn.

should I go ?
no I can't.
but I'd have fun.
no I can't.
but I could take cool photos.
nah, I'd get lonely.
but I could find a cool clock for my kitchen.
nah, I'd have to carry it home.
but I could get some cute new clothes for the kids.
nah, they are getting too big for me to pick them out.
and on
and on
and on.

These are great fares! Surfmom, it looks like that flight requires a change in Charlotte. Speaking of tossing and turning, it's 2:30 am and I can't sleep so here I am posting on Fodor's.

I just checked ...couldn't believe my eyes.

kayak.com is listing the following from Orbitz:

$682 , June 2 - 22, 2009.
Roundtrip
LAX - AMS, ZRH - LAX (one connection in PHL)
USAir
all taxes and fees included.

Really good deal!

Surfmom, for 550, you should just go. When will you pay that low of a price again? Your next set of tickets could be more than double that.

surfmom Jan 19th, 2009 07:43 AM

argh. I'm debating. I had found a ff trip on Delta for 60k miles, but I had to drive to Newark.

For that low, think of all the ff miles : )

you guys are tempting me!

(Louisa, it is the direct flight that I'm looking at - not the one that connects thru CLT).

Wow, just checked fare for Rome (been having withdrawal symptoms lately and dreaming about going yet again)...$665 everything incl. Savannah, Philadalpia, Rome.
Now to find out if my favorite apartment is available.

Thanks so much for this heads up!

I couldn't believe the airfare that I've been charting for our trip to France on May 4th to the 29th. I prefer to fly out of BWI but I've been watching AerLingus out of IAD and checking PHL as possiblities. USAir out of BWI has just been ridiculously priced on their own site.

Travelocity and USair showed a price late night on Tuesday that was 630, it wasn't a good night for me so I let it slip by and it was back over 900 the next morning---

Got another notice on Thursday for 646 out of BWI thru Travelocity and booked that one. It's still over 900 on USAIR. Looking at the seat choices these planes are nearly empty---they have to start lowering their prices, don't you think???

Carol, do you live in Savannah? I have a house down there (South Carolina, near Hilton Head). Great job on prices!

Deborah, I jumped on this because it just seemed too good to be true, BUT, if United's nonstop comes down drastically as a result I will be crying. I really do hate connections, but I figure saving a grand was worth suffering a little. If it turns into "saving 300 bucks" I will be kicking myself.

But today, I am exultant! I have two trips ticketed this summer now.

LouisaH Jan 19th, 2009 11:11 AM

Surfmom, you're right; that's what I get for posting at 2:30 am. Very tempting! :)

ronnieh Jan 19th, 2009 11:14 AM

I also just purchased tickets to Europe on US Air. My tickets were a little bit more 798 per ticket, probably due to us flying into Rome but flying out of CDG(paris). Was extremely happy to find such a good price.

flygirl Jan 19th, 2009 11:18 AM

ps. I just checked prices again for the July trip. I locked at 865 but it's now 795. Oh well, based on what I've seen the past few years I didn't expect 865 to last so at least I have tickets. Plus, since I was "early" I got great seats on all flights - emergency row, aisle.

lowcountrycarol Jan 19th, 2009 12:24 PM

For Flygirl....We use SAV as that is the closest airport. Started living on HH but 8 years ago found an idyllic spot on the Colleton River out in Bluffton.

Nice!! flygirl, have a great time!

I was looking for a thread regarding US Airways because last week and the week before I'd been searching Kayak.com and a few other airline ticket sites for fares from Philly to London or Paris. I wasn't having much luck as the fares were up over $1100. I was even having to look at flying out of Newark or New York. The most sensible fare I'd seen as of Thursday was $858 from New York on Aer Lingus, but it required a stop in Dublin and then on to London. Well, yesterday I decided to give Kayak.com a whirl and my jaw almost dropped when I saw $543 for a non-stop flight from Philly to London!

You see, this year I'm taking my youngest nephew to Europe (I'd taken his older brother to Europe in 2004 & 2005) and thought it wasn't going to happen given what I'd been seeing. So, today I spoke to my sister (his mom) and made 2 adjustments: move departure date to 8/21 and fly from Philly to London and then fly out of Paris back to Philly - price per ticket is like $546!! So, yeah, US Airways must be having some sort of sale. Now, I just have to find my flight from Dallas to Philly and back!
