Provincial textiles and...

Spending a week in Camargue in June so day trips all over: Aigue Morte, La Grande Motte, Arles...Any great places for quality textiles (a la Olivades)? Also would love fun markets, good beaches and any memorable restaurant adventures(casual, friendly but GOOD)....Thanks

Les Olivades has an outlet store in St Etienne du Gres - between St Remy and Tarascon.

I don't have the exact address handy, but there are signs indicating the way.
They close for lunch.

PB

We stayed a week in the Camargue 2 years ago and had a wonderful time. We were there at the end of May during the time when the gypsies pay homage to their patron saint, it was so memorable! We found a Soleiado outlet in Tarascon. I spent a small fortune in there without regret. It is probably more expensive than Olivades. Also there is a little museum which shows how the fabric is printed.
Ets Charles Demery
39, Rue Proudhon
13150 Tarascon
tele 04 90 91 08 80
Also I picked up some lovely free posters at the tourist info office. At almost all tourist office they give away either posters or postcards.Bon Voyage Susan

There's at least one Souleiado store in Arles. Knockoffs of Souleiado and Olivades are available in street markets and shops all over the area.

Stephanies,

Four years ago I stayed with a group in Arles for a week. The town held an unbelievable open-air market one of the mornings (I think it was Saturday). Although not the real McCoy, there were a number of stalls that sold gorgeous Souleiado and Olivades-like Provence fabrics--a huge assortment of prints and colors. I made a beautiful table cloth with napkins from my purchases. I don't think I paid more than $20 for the material. Very inexpensive and an even better deal now. And the material has washed beautifully after many uses.
