Provence - Uzes - Place to Stay
 

Looking for a charming, unique & somewhat upscale inn/b&b/hotel near or in Uzes. Would prefer the countryside. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Merci!

I love the town of Uzes. It is my favorite. We rented an apartment near they and it was wonderful for us, but not what I think you are looking for. I did a google search and found one hotel and one chateau that seem to be appropriate. I found them under the Tripadvisor web site. The Chateau d'Arpaillargues seems to be the best.It is more upscale, but still affordable. The other is the Hotel d'Entraigues. It looks great, but not as up scale and it is in the village. The Chateau is in the country. Have a wonderful time.

The "La Bégude Saint-Pierre," 800 m from the Pont du Gard, is one of the best places in the south of France that we have spent a few days at.

Thank you so much everyone. Chateau se Saint Maximin looks amazing. Have seen their website - stunning. Before logging back on I also found Le Castellas - beautiful, too. Saint Maxim though seems like something out of a dream. Yipper - I've heard so many wonderful things about Uzes. Can't wait to be there. I'll have to check out La Begude as well. Thanks again...this will more than do.

Hi James! When you go to lovely Uzes try to be there at the weekend..they have an amazing food market in the square on Saturdays and the same place has a flower market on Sundays.Have fun!

Unfortunately, I think our beloved Hotel d'Albiousse has closed. . .

While you're in the area, you might take a drive to the Cave de Bordic just outside of Uzes. They make a very concentrated, very intense wine that's worth bringing back.

The Chateau de Saint Maximin looks wonderful. I know you will have a fabulous vacation.

We tried to stay at the Bégude St-Pierre, but they had no record of our reservation when we arrived--and we had paid a deposit several months in advance. our returning the next day to argue with the head receptionist, who finally went through the credit-card slips for the month in question and found our charge. I wrote to the owner when we returned home but never received a reply.

Too bad, as it looked quite pleasant. We were redirected to a Relais et Châteaux place nearby that was half again as much for nothing special.

Good information as usual! I too am tryin to decide whether to stay in uzes (Hotel d'Entraigues) or near Pont du Gard at Begude Saint Pierre. We only have one night to stay so i had thought that it made sense to stay in town to make it easy to walk around in the evening and for the Sat. am market. But Saint Piere looks SOOO charming. How long a drive from there into Uzes? Would we have trouble parking in Uzes on Sat. morning market day? is Hotel d'Entraigues the only game in town for atmospheric hotel? Thanks again.

pegprescot, the drive from Begude Saint Pierre into Uzès is about 15 minutes or less.

Parking in Uzès can be a real challenge on Saturday mornings, but if you arrive early, you should be able to find a spot.

There are several public parking lots on the boulevard surrounding the old city centre. If you have a map of the town, you'll see one on the left hand side of Le Portalet, and an another two near the Tour Fenestrelle and behind the Cathédrale St-Théodorit. There is also an underground lot in the north-east corner of town called Parking Gide.

Alternatively, as you enter Uzès on the D981 from Pont du Gard, turn left on Av. Georges Pompidou. You'll see parking spots on your right as you approach Av. de la Liberation. If you continue straight through the roundabout at Av. de la Liberation, you'll find another huge public lot on your right hand side just past the roundabout.

I hope this isn't too confusing. Take a look at the town plan for Uzès in the Green Guide or look at Viamichelin.com, you'll see the ones I'm talking about.

You will love that market. When you get tired, sit at a café table in Place aux Herbes and have a drink. It's a sight you'll always remember.

We dined there twice - excellent food and fantastic decor inside & outside.

Also stayed once and dined at Hotel d'Arpaillargues twice - excellent with very nice outdoor dining in the garden.

We stayed 1 week in the area in '03, and another week in '04.

Thankyou for all your help. I think we will stay in Uzes at Hotel d'Entraigues and use their parking garage to make life simple and maximize our short time there. I delighted that we will be there for the Saturday market. You all have suggested many wonderful restaurants in the area. If we decide not to drive out again for dinner at l'Olivier or Table d'Horlage what do you suggest is the best restaurant in town - Trois Salons, les Fontaines, or something else? don't know what I would do without you all!

Between Les Trois Salons and Les Fontaines in Uzes, we much preferred Les Trois Salons - excellent quality, service and setting. We enjoyed Les Fontaines, but it's not in the same league.

We've booked dinner at the Entraigues after hearing that it is very good. I hope they'll still have the truffe menu.
