Provence trip in June - need suggestions
 

We will be spending 4 days in St. Jean Cap Ferratt and would like to take a 4-5 day trip through Provence. Would like help on the sights not to miss and some places to stay like the quiet but quality category. Preference would be to go the areas closest to the Riviera/Nice and perhaps find some day trips. Any suggestions re Aix en Provence, Avignon, Ste. Marguerite? Also we've been to St. Jean in September but hear everything will be much more crowded in late June. Thanks.

If you are into natural sites and/or walking, you
should not miss the Gorges du Verdon (also
known as the Grand Canyon of Verdon).
Spectactularly beautiful landscapes with charming
towns/villages around. Also liked St Remy as a
quiet but central place to stay for visits to Nimes,
Les Beaux, Pont du Gard etc.
We found the (Green) Michelin Guides really
useful as they rate all the sites with 1 - 3 stars -
these (or another guidebook such as Fodors)
would be a worthwhile investment.

In October, we did the exact reverse of what you're considering as part of our honeymoon. We spent 3 nights in Provence and then went on to the Riviera where we spent one night in Vence and 2 nights in St. Jean Cap Ferrat. In Provence, we stayed in Fontvieille which didn't have any particular sights to speak of but was a good place to base ourselves out of for the rest of Provence. We did enjoy a particular restaurant in Fontvieille, Le Patio. We visited Les Baux, Glanum, St. Remy, Arles, Pont du Gard, Avignon, and Aix. Bon voyage.
