Provence to Bordeaux

From the Provence region, we plan to head to Bordeaux. We are just unsure of the best way to get there. We will rent a car in Nice, drive to Aix or St. Remy and use that as our base. We will drive around and explore the area for 3 full days before heading to Bordeaux.

Our plan:
Drive to Marseilles to return the car and head to Bordeaux by train. Does anyone have a better way of getting to Bordeaux from Aix or St. Remy? We prefer not to drive.

Getting east to west across the width of France from Marseilles to Bordeaux by train is a PITA. I would drive or fly.

That is what I have heard. I guess I was looking for more opinions. Is it difficult to drive to Bordeaux from Aix?

Difficult? No. Boring as all get-out? Yes, unless you take a week and roam around on the D and N roads.

If you wish to spend three days or more getting there, there are various routes you could plot out. Driving I would definitely include St-Jean -de-Luz. Still there is a lot of boring countryside to get through. Going directly, your best option would be flying Easyjet from Nice.
