Provence St. Remy Nice Monaco off to Italy - depart Rome

Hello travelers!

I've got 14 day in September of 2010. I'd like to fly into France and do a little Provence then Nice, Monaco and then off into Italy to Cinque Terra, Portofino, Venice, Florence perhaps a little Tuscany and finally departing from Rome.

First of all, is this too ambitious a plan for 14 days? How many days are necessary to do a trip like this? I haven't see any itineraries for a route like this on the internet so I don't know if it's doable.

We are a party of 3 and traveling by car and/or train.

This trip started as a tour of Italy, but I thought maybe we could do a bit of France too.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be of GREAT help. What airport would we fly in to France to do Provence and Nice?

Thank you for helping to educate me!

Linda

For 14 days that includes CT, Portofino, Venice, Florence, Tuscany, and Rome - just stick with Italy. Save France for another trip. Actually 14 days for your Italy itinerary is a faster pace than I would want to keep.

Italy
Rome - 4 nights Min
Venice - 3 nights
Florence 2 nights, unless you are an art fan - then add another night
Cinque Terre - 2 nights min
Portofino - 1 night.
Tuscany (excl. Florence) - 3-4 nights min

That's 15-16 nights.

France
Provence 4-5 nights min
Cote d'Azur - 4 nights min
getting from France to Italy - loose 3/4 of a day.

That's about 23 nights.

Thanks, Stu, for the sobering advice. That's kind of what I was thinking.

You need a month for all that. Stu's plan is more realistic.

Hi LT

Yup.

You can do only Italy or only Southern France in the time period that you have.

Follow Stu's advice.
