Provence - shopping for confit pot
 

Hi: I hoping to buy some confit pots while I'm in Provence this summer. Do you have any tips on where to go? I'm interested in both antique and reproduction. Thanks.

Confit post are more commonly found in the southwest of France than in Provence. Good luck!

I know a dealer who buys them in the 18th at les puces de paris, St Owen.
There are also plenty on line if you google.

authentic old confit pots have been pretty well shopped out here in Provence...and are even harder to find in the southwest these days.

You can sometimes find them in the Saturday morning brocante in Villeneuve lez Avignon. And there are always some in the Sunday morning brocante in l'Isle sur la Sorgue.
Wherever you find them, they'll be rather expensive - small ones in decent condition often start at around 135 euros
New ones are also often found at the brocantes...or in gift shops

You really need to go online and check out dealers who specialize in confit pots. As mentioned, they're more common in the SW than in Provence to begin with, and there are precious few of them left. Ten years ago I picked up a bunch for virtually nothing - now if I see one in a shop in Le Bugue, for example, it's in bad shape and selling for over 100 euro.

There's a guy who travels around to markets in the Périgord (specifically the annual antiques fair in St-Léon-sur-Vézère) who has loads of them and sells at pretty fair prices, but unfortunately I forget his name and his business card is at my house in France.

I hope you know what to look for, because it's way easy to get ripped off.

I saw your posting on the confit pots and you mentioned that you had a business card from a man who travels to various markets selling confit pots. Do you think you could find his card? I am going to France in June- first trip and would love to contact him.
