Provence/Riviera:What clothes to bring in March?

We are heading to Nice and Arles on the 10th of March. I am planning on bringing pants, sweaters, and, of course, a raincoat. Should I also bring shorts and summer clothes?

Not unless you want to freeze your heine off. In march the average high is in the mid 50's.

No! Consider this: Rome is on a parallel with NYC. Provence is considerably north of Rome. Of course, weather patterns are different in Europe, but basically you are in a rather cool, even cold, zone in Provence in March

Was in Provence last March and I only needed a light long-sleeved shirt, pants and a light jacket that I usually took off during the day. I would check the weather before you leave-

I've been wondering the same thing! We will arrive Paris Mar.12 and go to Provence on the 15th. First trip to France and I want to be well dressed both practiclally and style.
I'm a youthful looking 51yr old artist.I'm thinking layers, good black pants, light sweaters and guess I have to go buy a raincoat! Shoes... now there's a question!
Am I going at an awful time where I'm just going to wish it was May for a week? Any advise appreciated!

We were there last March and had fabulous weather. It was sunny and in the 70s-I think also very unusual weather. I brought chinos, sweaters and light jackets. I had a raincoat with a zip out lining which was great for the rainy cool time we spent in Paris after Provence. We are returning this March arriving on the 16th and I am wondering how different the weather will be. Ah well the joys of travel!!
