Hello everyone.

I am an idiot.

I plan on going to Provence from Lyon next week and I DON'T KNOW WHAT I SHOULD DO.

Duration: 1 week.

No car, yet. Should I rent one?
Should I reserve a B& B?
I would like an inexpensive plan (I am a teacher) below the level many of you are writing about.
I'd be very grateful for some help!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think you are an idiot, just maybe kind of weird since you have a very nice vacation coming up and haven't planned for it.

Definitly rent a car. We used these guys and they were great.

Get yourself a guide book pronto, and decide what you want to see.

We stayed in Nimes (for a festival) and Avignon. We took a driving tour through Arles, Gordes, and Rousillon, and the antiques town that was great.

Purchase the Michelin green guide for Provence, rent a car and explore. You will love Provence and won't want to leave. Can't help with a B&B recommendation but perhaps decide which town you want to base yourself in and then go from there. Not much time for planning so you may have to take what is available. Try autoeurope for the car, we have always used them and found them competitive.

You didn't mention where you need to be for your flight home. That may have some bearing on where you rent the car and for how long.

So spontaneous! I went to "laterooms.com" referred to Provence after finding France...then Budget Beds...
lots of space over there under 50Euro's...a map in hand for your travels...and laterooms on the screen...
you'll do really quite fine!

First time to Provence? Rent a SMALL car to get through the small roads in the villages and get parking spaces. Diesel and also manuel shift are less expensive,
Visit Les Baux, Rousillon, Gordes, Arles, Pont du Gard, St remy, Avignon and Aix. B&Bs are the way to go but be aware most only take the euro.

Eddie...a suggestion, understanding that you are on a fairly tight budget. Use one base and fan out each day from that base. Assuming you'll have a car, which you can rent right at the TGV station in Avignon(Budget has the best rates...and National is also good for rates)
Consider popular St. Remy as the base I'm suggesting. This will give you a good range for The Luberon region and for Arles, Nimes, Pont Du Gard in the western part of Provence, Les Baux (very close), etc.
If you can feel comfortable with around 70E's, the Villa Ganum just 2 kms south of town would be fine. They charge 8 E's for a very substantial breakfast buffet, and their grounds include plenty of room for parking.
The Roman ruins of "Glanum" are right next door, as is the hospital where Van Gogh spent his last year before returning to Paris...
