Provence mid Aug. How crowded ?

Coming down to Arle and Provence mid Aug. How crowded will it be? What should I expect?

I am interest in this question also, as I will be in Avignon from 24/8 through 7/9.

Paris is empty in August, because everyone is in Provence.

How busy is Arle/Avignon in mid-August? Is it really crowded?

This time of the year is one of the busiest in France in the touristic regions and on the road, as it is considered as summer's last big weekend (think US Labour day). The 15th of August (Assumtion day) is a legal holiday and falls on a tuesday, which means many people will take monday off in order to make it a long week end. The cities, the motorway down the Rhône valley might be "hellish" at that time.
