Provence, Luberon, etc---where to base?

We've stayed in Aix, Avignon, Antibes and driven around The Riviera & Provence several times.
Now we're thinking of returning and basing in Lourmarin, St. Remy, Uzes to go a bit west of Avignon. We like a town with some restaurants for dinner to walk to after a day of driving around.

Very preliminary planning, heading into France after a stay in Amsterdam in Sept.
B&B, apt. or small hotel. Any suggestions welcome.
My search begins!

Lourmarin is pretty far east of you want to go west of Avignon.

We stayed In a great gite in St. saturnin les Apt and were easily able to drive to areas west of Avignon and to all other directions as well.

The gites are fully equipped with spectacular views and the owners are knowledge of the area.

Agree with Deb. You will not look forward to another drive over the Combe de Lourmarin after 4-5 trips.

OK, we'll take your advice and skip Lourmarin.

On to more research---we'll check out St. S.les Apt also.

Any more suggestions?

I would veto Lourmarin, also. I like Uzes much better than St Remy. I am not a St Remy fan, don't like the place, it's too touristy and for rich people IMO. Uzes is more a regular place, I have stayed there several days and enjoyed it a lot. I have stayed in Pernes-les-Fontaines several times, but I don't know where you would stay that you can walk to restaurants in town. I did do that in Uzes, and it's a nice town with some attractions of its own.

I agree Christina. I found St Remy a tired worn town altho I did score some beautiful hhome dec fabric there! More charming is Gordes, Rousillon. I regret we didn't get to Bonnieux.
