Provence in October???

Is Oct. 23rd too late to take a car tour of Provence? I'm a woman travelling alone...should I be concerned about safety there? I'll be in Paris for 16 nights and thought I would take 2 or 3 of those and tour the countryside. What do you think? Should I go weekend nights or weekday nights? (I thought perhaps I could just go without reservatins if I went during the week). Oh, and how much is the high speed train?

Last question: Will many of the museums and sites of interest be closed by then?

End of October is lovely in Provence, and certainly worthy of a car tour. The TGV train is about $70 o/o and takes about 3 hours to Avignon. Some small shops and restaurants might be closed in the region, but the museums and hotels will certainly be open.

I never advocate going anywhere without reservations as I've never had good luck winging it; others seem to do just fine.

October is generally a good time weatherwise. We were swimming to mid Nov last year. There can be short, but violent thunderstorms, generally at night.

Check out the weather history here -

I think you will benefit from less tourists, but everything will be open.

If you are prepared to be flexible, don't bother to reserve .............. you may even pay less !
