Provence in March? Help!

Is it a mistake to go to the Avignon area in early March? Is there likely to be heavy rain every day? The French tourist office told me that it would be cool and sunny which is ok. I checked in a couple of guide books and they said heavy down pours are common. I need to know which answer is most likely.
Thank you!

I see no one replying, so for what they're worth, here are the historical averages for Marseille - I hope they appear as typed:

month jan feb mar apr may jun jul aug sep oct nov dec
rain 48 41 46 46 46 25 15 25 64 94 76 58 mm
max t 11 12 14 17 21 26 29 28 25 20 14 12 °C
min t 3 3 6 8 12 16 19 18 16 11 7 3 °C

It shows that in theory it does not rain more in March than in most other months, but it could all fall the days you are there... or not.

We were in Provence in March 3 years ago. It was wonderful. Warm and sunny every day. Have a great time

I live in Provence (near Les Baux and St Remy) and on 'average', March weather is more sunny and mild than rainy. However.... the Mistral often blows in March which an make it pretty cold.

PB
