Provence -hotels & towns

My husband and I are planning to visit Provence this Spring. Which town would you suggest to use as a base? Any hotels to suggest? Thank you for any help.

It's hard to go wrong with any of the many towns and villages of Provence; to name a few, I would consider: St. Remy, Isle sur la Sorgue, Gordes, Carpentras, Apt, Menerbes, Bonnieux, Arles, Avignon, Rousillon. Check them (and others) out in guide books and see which have the qualities and services that you deem to be important. For example, do you want to be inside a town, where you could walk to restaurants, or do you want a farm house in middle of poppy fields?

Hi Alana,

I studied abroad in Aix-en-Provence and my family came to visit at the end of the semester to travel around the region. I may be a bit partial, but I would highly recommend using Aix as your base. We stayed there and went to Nice, St. Remy, Arles, Avignon, Les Baux, Apt, Isle sur la Sorgue etc. It was great because Aix has a lot to offer itself but at the same time is close to other places. Email me if you have any other questions. Good luck!

I'd go with a base of St. Remy or Gordes - both towns with restaurants and hotels for evenings, and good bases for travels during the day.

We were in Provence in October, and Gordes was probably our favorite town. That said, our favorite hotel was Bastide de Marie outside Menerbe. Truly amazing.
