Provence FREAK OUT

Crisis-have been trying to book a nice hotel with charm in a cute village (in town!) tried Villa Saint Louis in Lourmarin, Roy Soleil, Bastide de Gordes, among others and they are ALL booked. Help! Ideas for a cute hotel in a nice village for up to 250 euros?? Is Rousillon on anyones list of faves? Thanks!

We have been to Rousillon but have never stayed there. It was a very nice village, not very large and the views were nice. There appeared to be a small number of restaurants but did not notice any hotels, but we weren't looking for any either.

It is, in my opinion a bit off the beaten path, but that added to it's charm. A bit touristy as well.

Also has an interesting feature...you walk into a natural area where erosion has created magnificent sculpted rock and sand walls of various hues and colors.

US

Cancel your trip. The Front National is about to sweep Provence in legislative elections and embark on ethic cleansing campaign. Could be very ugly.

Thank US, did you stay nearby-any ideas?

Rick Steves lists some accomodations: Roussillon--Hotel Reves d' Ocres tel. 04 90 05 60 50 Mas Garrigon tel.04 90 05 63 22. We stayed at the Hotel Calendal in Arles. It is nice and located in the Roman ruins. Air-conditioned and you can get ice from the kitchen! Tel.04 90 96 11 89. Good luck. Jinx Hoover

Have you tried the Moulin de Lourmarin?

Jean-Claude May 28th, 2002 01:59 PM

ALmost all hoteliers and restaurateurs in Provence are due paying memebers of the Front National.
Americans, please stop forking your money to these nazi bastards!

Jack, alias Jean Claude, why don't you leave this forum and go do your political opinions somewhere else? We are travelers here. We don't need you.

Yea, I get it Jack. I can read the papers. Anyway, yes Ron I have tried Moulin de Lourmarin and it's full. Will check your idea Jinx-is the place super nice, nice nice, or just nice?

I know a nice couple in Goult who opened a B&B last year in their 17th century bastide La Borie w/tennis courts and pool. It is a lovely place. They showed us all 4 rooms/suites and they are all spanking new and nice. The family is super-nice and you have kitchen privileges also. Prices would be in the 100 euro range, incl. breakfast.

Dominique & Fred Pauwels-Renwart, Chemin de la Verriere, 84220 Goult en Luberon. Tele/fax 33-490-73-35-84

How about the Mas de Cure Bourse, near Isle sur la Sorgue? It has a lovely restaurant; recommended by Patricia Wells. The chef wears a signature piece of fresh parlsey in her toque; she makes the rounds and greets the diners. Have eaten there, not stayed all nite, altho it has a good reputation.

Finally booked Le Boffrei to the north of the Luberon and will do that area during the day. Tried Ferme de La Huppe and Feniere -no luck. Hope this one is nice- will let you know! Thanks again!

Anyone heard of La Gochelle in Gordes? We are staying there. The rates are very reasonable, and it's recommended as a "value" in Frommer's, but I haven't come across any 1st hand accounts in any of the posts.
Thanks

San Remy, an ideal location, should be possible. 4 star either Valmourian or Valrogues would be wonderful. Mas de Bournissac, 6-7 miles north of San Remy, is great. Just returned 3 days ago. E-mail me if you want more particulars.
