FWIW, we were in Lille for 1 night and Paris for 1 night during the third week of July '11, and it was rainy & cold in both places. However, I've never been so hot and miserable as I was about 20 years ago in Paris during a hot part of the year.

I've had only one day in Provence when the heat was too much. The humidity was never as bad as in Boston.But that dsy, my late husband of fair skin, was unhappy with the heat so we departed to Trouville, to our favorite bistro, Les Vapeurs.

If you are going to drive, bring your GPS from home, download the French maps in advance. Having to learn a strange GPS unit can be very frustrating. Using ours really lowered the tension level in the car a lot! <
French roads are better maintained than ours on the Left Coast, if a bit narrow, but then so are the cars.
