Provence fans and Kerouac (for verification)
Saw another French flick last night that we can recommend. It was a box office hit in France (Kerouac?)and is playing in art theaters around the States (of which we have a bunch in L.A.)..
"Grocer's Son"...a poignant, pleasant story that takes place in rural Provence (along D-24, according to the script)..nicely presented, very credible acting. The audience seemed to like it a lot. Panoramas of the countryside are quite lovely...looked like it probably WAS shot somewhere in Provence, though the villages were not readily discernible. Go see it...it's enjoyable..no violence, no gratuitous sex scenes, characters you can like. Rare these days, indeed. Stu T. (and wife Roz) |
Stu, parts were filmed in Lyon and Rhone alps,
and Rosan, Hautes-Alps |
P.S. Yesterday I saw Tell no one
Very good film photograghted in Paris, Kong restaurant, Parc Monceau The huge Flea Market and other locations. |

hi Mim:
Thanks...we didn't stay for the full credits which usually show location. These days, one never knows....Lyon could stand-in for Miami Beach!! I touted "Tell No One" on this forum a few weeks ago...very impressive...I called it a "twisty mystery"..it played to very large audiences and great reviews here in L.A. The scenes in Parc Monceau were especially tingling. Also liked "Roman de Gare". See it when you can. Ain't we lucky we live in Cambridge/Boston and L.A/Hollywood where you can actually get to see these flicks! stu T. Hope all goes well with you. stu |
It's St Andre de Rosan that is near Moustiers and Digne if anyone is interested.
another good film at the MFA French film festival is "Conversations with my Gardener." Daniel Auteuil |
spent a night in Digne many years ago...as you say, close to Rosans.
