If you buy a "big roomy backpack" you won't be able to take it as carry-on luggage on the plane! Wasn't that the whole idea?

We will be there July-ish. And I guess I was feeling greedy again (I'm used to at the very least living out of a duffel bag). Small backpack it is.

Why not use a duffle bag if that's what you like and what you are used to using? Nothing sacred about a backpack. Whatever you choose just make sure it fits the size and weight limits for your specific airlines, if you want to keep it with you.
