Pros and cons regarding going to the Liore Valley In March

I had vacation time in the middle of March, and we decided to go to the Loire valley in France. We just returned. It was a lovely trip. My partner had never been to this part of France.

We flew into Paris and took a TGV into St. Pierre des Corps. We stayed overnight at the train station and rented a car the next morning from Eurocar. I must say I became a fan of the roundabouts that apparently are everywhere in France.. It was quite easy getting from the train station to Amboise, our hub.

We stayed at Manoir Les MInimes. It was a very good choice for us. We had lovely room overlooking the bridge and the castle and saw some great sunsets. It cost, off season, about $125 per night. In addition, it was walking distance to the man drag, where most of the restaurants are. The staff was also very helpful..

The advantages of going in March were

it was cheaper
there were very few people in the restaurants, hotels and the castles
we got to see the castles with the fireplaces working
because it was not crowded, everyone was nicer.
taking photos at the castles was much easier. .

the disadvantages were

it was cold (40-55 degrees)
the gardens were just beginning to bloom

It is always good for people to get tips about going places out of season. I would not have thought of the working fireplaces, but you're right -- it is really cold this March in northern France after a very mild January and February.

Thanks for posting young Tom. We also have vacation time in March next year and I have been trying to figure out what to do. This helps a lot as we wanted to go to the Loire valley, but didn't know how it would be that time of year.

Another advantage is that you get to see the Loire in fairly full spate.

You stayed overnight at the S-P-d-Corps train station or in a hotel near it? Curious as to whether they folks sleep in the station or not???

We'll be in the Loire Valley mid April. I hope it will be warmer by then.

At least in April the many fruit trees and shrubs will be in full bloom but the weather should be similar to what you have in Belgium IME - could be fine but more likely windy and rainy.
