Proposed Northern England/Scotland itinerary – advice needed

I’m in the beginning stages of planning a trip to Northern England/Scotland for mid/end September. I’ve done some research with guidebooks, internet and the Fodors board. I’ve gone back and forth about what we should see/where to stay and have come up with a tentative outline. I would appreciate any input. Thank you!

Day 1: arrive Heathrow, train to York, overnight in York
Day 2: York. Overnight in York. Fountains Abbey either day 2 or 3?
Day 3: Explore North York Moors. Overnight in Whitby
Day 4: Explore the Moors. Will the heather still be in bloom at this time? Overnight in Whitby
Day 5: Durham Cathedral, Hadrian’s Wall, maybe some of the Border Abbeys? Overnight somewhere in this area - suggestions?
Day 6: the rest of the Border Abbeys, Rosslyn Chapel, Stirling Castle. Overnight in Stirling.
Day 7: Loch Lomond (Sweeney’s Cruises?), overnight in Glencoe
Day 8: Glenfinnan Viaduct on way to Mallaig. Ferry to Isle of Skye. Overnight in Portree.
Day 9: Isle of Skye. Overnight in Portree.
Day 10: Loch Ness, stay in Inverness area. Suggestions?
Day 11: Overnight in Inverness area.
Day 12: Cairngorms National Park/Mountain Railway on way to St. Andrews. Overnight in St. Andrews.
Day 13: Edinburgh
Day 14: Edinburgh
Day 15: Edinburgh
Day 16: depart Edinburgh
