Proof of address when renting car
 

My husband reserved a car online with Enterprise for our upcoming trip to Ireland in 2 weeks. We will be picking up the car at Dublin airport.

While reading the fine print of the Enterprise rental paperwork, he found the following section:

"All drivers, including additional drivers must produce at the time of rental proof of flight, a valid driving license, two proofs of address, photographic identification - passport or drivers license, and a major credit card in their own name. Proofs of address must be less than 90 days old and be either utility bills such as gas, electricity or land line telephone bill, bank statement or mortgage documents."

I am curious whether anyone brought 2 proofs of address to Ireland for the car rental. Did a rental agent ever ask for this at time of vehicle pickup?

I never heard of practice before, on the other hand, some aspects of car rental in Ireland (like insurance) seems a bit different than in other places

Of course you'd have two proofs of address . . . IF you plan on driving. For foreign visitors they would be your drivers license and passport.

The utility/phone bills etc would be for locals who likely wouldn't have their passport w/ them.

Although the drivers license has the home address, a passport do not (US). It is for this reason I am asking, was anyone ever asked for a second proof of address?

Nope, never asked for 2.

Actually your US passport does have your address -- On the page where you've filled in the "Personal Data and Emergency Contact" info.

It's not a proof of address, because you fill it in yourself. Most people don't even fill it in, as the information is likely to get outdated before the passport expires.

I've rented from Enterprise here in the UK and they have asked for two proofs of address, separate from my UK driving, which does show an address. I took a phone bill and a local Council tax bill. They were quite clear that they wouldn't rent without this.

For the sake of the weight of two pieces of paper, I'd err on the side of caution.

We recently rented from Arnold Clark in Glasgow. They were satisfied with drivers licenses, credit card, and Italian identity card, which does have the address on it. However, the Italian ID is valid for ten years, so I wouldn't consider that a proof of current address, either, as there's no obligation to renew it if you move.

I also rented from Enterprise last week and was faced with this requirement. The clerk couldn't fathom that I had neither just got off a plane (I was renting from Heathrow) nor did I live in London. He asked me both of these questions twice. At the end he didn't ask for my two proofs of address although I had them.
I will say that the experience was first rate and I was very impressed with Enterprise. It has opened my eyes to the service they provide and I am currently actively looking at hiring again with them.

Since we don't get paper utilities bills, or any other paper bills for that matter we would be stuck. Our utilities bill comes in once a year, as does our local taxation bill, both by e-mail, so even if we were to print them out they wouldn't be valid as proof of address after August 9utilities) or June (local taxes).
Not even sure my driving licence has my address on it tbh. I assume it does.

I just checked my driving licence and that doesn't have my address on it either. Since it is an EU standard bit of pink plastic I assume that means no EU licence has the holders address.
I would really be stuck with Enterprise then wouldn't I?

The UK version of the pink bit of plastic does have the address on it.
