Prom's Question
 

I would like to attend Proms next Sunday, especially the evening concert, which has musicians I recognize! It is therefore already sold out, and being a weekend I imagine it will be quite popular.

I'm wondering how Proming on the day works, since I think there should be at least 500 if not 1,000 standing room places. When do tickets go on sale that day, and how early should I queue up before that to get one? I'm not entirely sure about these answers from reading the Prom website ... I think that tickets go on sale 1 hour before?

Just looking for some advice from people who have Promed as to how it works, and especially how early I should try to get there given a weekend and a popular concert.

The last time I "Prommed" was over 20 years ago so my advice won't be of much help. But this will top your thread so maybe someone else will see it . . . .

I'm one of those terrible Londoners who has all this on the doorstep and never goes in person (thank goodness for Radio 3 and BBC 4) so I can't speak from experience either, but you might get a more expert response through the messageboard at

We went to the Proms on a Friday night last August. We got there two hours before concert time, I think. The line for standing room tickets was long but once they started selling it moved pretty quickly. Once you get into the standing room area quickly grab a spot near the rails so you can see what's going on. A small blanket would be useful for reserving space as well as sitting on during the concert. Glass bottles are banned from the standing room so don't try to buy a bottle and bring it up during intermission. I'm sure you'll have a great time.

Did you end up going? I assume you were talking about the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, right? I'm contemplating a trip to London and am checking out what concerts will be held during that time.

Tell me the details if you did go. £5 sounds like a great deal!
