Trust Capo, testosteronorrheic pontificator, to moralize against people he assumes are moralizing.

I'm with hogwash. And there are plenty of good sex fora on the web but far too few really good travel sites. All I can figure is that the people who post on a travel site are those who aren't traveling at the moment but wish they were. So it must be for those who keep posting threads about sex.

Travel and sex! Two of my favorite things! I don't see any problem at all with using this forum to discuss their convergence.

Just to raise the stakes a bit (... all prudes please stop reading immediately!), I'll mention an experience in which travel had a distinctly liberating effect on my inhibitions. I'm basically a hetero male, but have a bit of a bisexual urge (as I suspect many guys do). I never did anything overt about it until I got to Amsterdam while traveling solo many years ago and talked myself into going to a gay club. Had a totally wonderful time, and it "scratched the itch" of my curiousity. I haven't repeated the experience, but I secretly treasure the memory. Travel definitely allowed me to do something I would not have done at home.

I refuse to have sex with any strange woman who would stoop low enough to have me as a partner!

In our 35 years of marriage, travel has always been a romantic stimulus.

Travel is one of the greatest influences on sex that there is. Even if you've been married for a zillion years, when traveling, sex is out of this world if you're traveling and you're both in tune with the travel experience.
And people who travel well together have great sex - I can attest to this over 21 years.

This string is rich in conjecture. If the Navy counts as travel, I suppose that in my years in the Navy I had 20 or so women in one port or another while maintaining a family back home. (I assume that most of you are talking about cheating.)
Most were Asians, Americans, or Italians. The Asians were far and away the best. The best part of it was that most of these girls would be with you for a day or two; some longer. I would only categorize one of them as a typical hooker; the rest, even though they were selling sex, were interesting, intelligent, women that I was sorry to leave. We had fun together, they seemed not that interested in the money side of things, and they taught me the European and Asian view of fidelity, which is far less cloaked in notions of sin and cheating.
Nevertheless, I left the navy and have lived faithfully with my wife since. It's been a long time since I've thought about this part of my past. Today, I guess that, on balance, it was unwise and certainly not the American way of things, but it was certainly the navy way then.
Were I single, I would not hesitate to try to meet single women in Europe. Take the usual precautions against disease that you'd follow anywhere. FOR CERTAIN, you'll learn more about Europe if you spend a week touring with a "friend" by day and frolicking in bed at night, than you could ever learn any other way. Wonderful women. Wonderful shared experiences.
Men who have been cheated on don't take very kindly to the idea. With respect to European experiences, the opera 'Carmen' is all about jealousy and betrayal; Carmen is not forgiven by her very European lover for 'sharing experiences' with another man, because most human beings don't cope very well with deception.

Although some purist is sure to remind me that the U.K. does not consider itself part of Europe, might I point out that dear King Henry the VIIIth of England sent at least one wife to the block on suspicions of adultery. So much for those across the pond being more liberal about the idea (and this, from a man who broke with Rome over his insistence on a divorce.)

However, I suspect that none of these points are going to make any difference, because your decision was not founded on any premediated idea of what would be harmless, or what other cultures thought suitable, etc, but on something more pedestrian. Most of us try to justify our behaviour; you are no different. However, the heart of a marriage is a bilateral agreement. If you are deciding the terms for yourself, and implementing them in secret, then you don't have an agreement, you have a lie. The nature of your paid companions is irrelevant, since they weren't a party to the original contract. You made decisions in your own interest; human, maybe; liberal, no.

You-all who love this topic should take note of an article in today's (Sunday's) New York Times on sexual boasting on-line:

One quote: "Callow and dubious braggadocio is not a new thing, but in this case the forum was not a locker room, where listeners could simply roll their eyes and make a mental note not to invite this jackass to their next dinner party . . . "
http://www.nytimes.com/2001/06/03/magazine/03WWLN1.html

This thread isn't any worse than what's being discussed on the United States forum by Tony seeking suggestions on
"how to do it on a plane" (senior class trip).

For the prurient, check out -
http://www.milehighclub.com/tales

capo no im not offended or upset or shocked by sex. im way to old for that. i object to looking at a supposed travel site to find all these sexually related questions that have nothing or very little to do with making my traveling better. your constant pontificating frankly gives me a pain in the ass and makes my question who and what yopu are or represent. two can play this game!!

euro, Re: "...because most human beings don't cope very well with deception."

I'd agree. However, if you refer to the original post in this thread anyway, there's nothing that explicitly, or implicity, refers to deception or cheating. One can be sexually liberal, or "promiscuous", on vacation even if one is not married or in any other committed relationship.

School's Out, interesting article...thanks. However, if there have been any posts here at all on this Europe forum which are filled with "braggadocio" in regard to the topic of sex while on vacation, they have been extremely few in number. Merely discussing issues surrounding sex while on vacation no more qualifies as "braggadocio" than discussing issues about eating and drinking while on vacation qualifies as bragging about food and wine and restaurants.

geromono, Re: "capo no im not offended or upset or shocked by sex. im way to old for that. i object to looking at a supposed travel site to find all these sexually related questions that have nothing or very little to do with making my traveling better."

First, yes, I suspect you are old; thanks for confirming that.

Second what you peculiarly see as "all these sexually related questions" are, in fact, extremely few in number. Your gripe makes me think of someone who might find an anchovy, or two, on their pizza and then complain to the waiter about "all these anchovies" on your pizza. What you see all depends on your perspective, how easily offended you are (by either posts about sex, or anchovies.)

Finally, do all posts on this forum need to exist for the purpose of making your traveling better? Or does the remote possibility exist that you might actually be able to exercise the self-restraint to not read threads which you find offensive, or irrelevant to making your traveling better?

Capo, I should have specified that my reply was intended for KC. I rather suspect that the posting of the NYTimes article was also inspired by him (only 20 or so women in every port, KC? Surely you left out a few.....)

capo you are blowing smoke out your butt. what do you classify as old?? you seem to think that you know me and my preferences and attitudes and any propensity to complain. well you are way off base. i complain little eapecially on vacation. we travel extensively in asia and india as welll as europe. to survive in indai you have to overlook much. what pull my chain is people like you who think they know other people or attitudes and dont come close but you are perfectly willing to write anything just to see your opinions in print. you are the one with a small mind and limited narrow opinionated scope or reference. tu sei un grande rincogunito stato zito. i hope you were never a teacher or god help your students and what they learned from you

Jim, *LOL*...especially if they're having sex on your pizza! :~)

Thanks, euro. (In general, how does one really know that anything anyone says on the internet is not braggadocio?)

geronomo, I don't find this thread offensive, so that's why I don't refrain from reading and posting on it. However, since you do find threads like this offensive and irrelevant to making your travel better, why it is that you continue to read and post here? Are you attracted to that which offends you? Are you peculiarly drawn to threads which you find irrelevant?

Capo, you are about to join Rex with the other august members of the Pompous Ass Club. Your name is all over this forum with many more opinions than information or help. Correction, it's all over this forum on the posts that are least travel-related. I'd like to introduce you to Sandi and Fatty McFatty, who are also recent initiates in the P.A.C.

Jordan,
As someone who has benefitted greatly from some of the info Capo has shared, you might want to stick to the topic on the thread, or post a Capo-bashing thread of your own if you think it's warranted. (It isn't!)

Who's the PAC now?????

Not a Jordan Fan
