Problems with St. Marco reservations
I've been trying to make a reservation for St. Marco's Basilica for October through www.alata.com and can't seem to get it to work. I've tried several different dates and times and it just keeps coming back as that time not being available. The availability calendar then pops up showing all times available. Anyone have any suggestions?

*jaw drops* You have to make reservations now to visit the basilica? Really? I haven't been to Venice since 1999.

No, you don't have to make a reservation but you can (for free) to avoid the lines. Since I don't know how crowded it will be when we are there, I figured it couldn't hurt.

First of all, I went to www.alata.it and found San Marco there.
What it is showing for October 2005 is "closure"; i.e., reservations are not yet being taken. Keep trying it until it accepts October reservations. "Available" is shown as green; check it out by putting in a September 2005 date. |
Eloise, my mistake. I typed alata.com in my post but was checking alata.it. I read the whole thing thinking that it might have been too soon to reserve and didn't see that notation. Don't I feel stupid! Thanks!

swalter, don't feel so bad. I was doing the same thing yesterday to try and get a date set for early October and didn't think about it being too early. I do hope it shows up soon since we leave next week for Italy. Have a great trip.

Thanks MaitaiTom-it's always good to know you aren't alone in your dumb moves! Have a wonderful trip too. A Bellini toast to you...

I just got back from Venice and we had made reservations throught the same site. It is absolutly worth doing, just bring your print out with and go to the front of the line, no waiting. If you are there mid-day, the lines are horrendous.
