problem finding a hotel for 5
 

I have been looking on the internet to book a hotel in Paris for 4 nights this summer for a family of 5. The largest rooms I have found sleep 4. I am looking in 06 area of Paris.
Is it better to use a travel agent or is there another alternative such as apartments/private homes in this area? And how would I find them?

You are going to find it very hard to find either, if you insist on one hotel room to accomodate five and that it must be in Saint-Germain, in addition. Likewise, you will probably have difficulty finding a vacation rental apartment for four nights. If you find a rental apt. that sleeps five, it could well be as or more expensive than a modest hotel, anyway, booking two rooms (double and triple), so I don't know that this will solve the problem if the main reason you are trying to find a single room is to save money.

I think a travel agent would be very bad at finding such information, because it is so unusual. There have been a couple posts on Fodors about families who found hotel accommodations for five in Paris. There were two hotels that I recall had such rooms -- I remember one is a wellknown budget hotel (very budget) in the Maubert metro area (on rue Sommerard, I think), the Marignan.

Perhaps you can find these posts with a search on "paris and hotel and five" or something like that. Or try searching on "paris and marignan".

Hotel Renoir St Germain has quintuple rooms. It's Rue de Montparnasse. It's not in the "heart" of the 6th but close enough.

Is there some reason to pck 5 peole into one room - why not go for a double and a triple? I would think you would want at lest 2 baths for that any people. You wuold have somany more options that was I'm sure many of them very economical.

In addition to what nytraveler has mentioned, some hotels have "communicating rooms" (connecting rooms). Otherwise, you can reserve two rooms located next to each other.

Hotel Marignan has rooms that hold 5, but it is in the 5th.

I concur with looking into getting two rooms.

Whether an apartment or hotel room, I think 5 people to 1 bathroom could be a real inconvenience!! Have you done this before?

Nix the travel agent idea unless you have someone highly recommended specific to Paris. Some of the worst advice I've ever heard repeated comes from people who trusted uninformed travel agents.

You would be so much more comfortable in an apartment or an apartment hotel. We've stayed in the Citadines...there are many locations. They aren't cheap, but it made all the difference. I'm sure we saved enough in food and drinks to make up the difference in price.

It was so nice to come back after a long day to a roomy place with a fridge etc and have the space to spread out.

You can get apartments less expensive than the citadines but if you want the services of a hotel, that may not work for you.

We just got back from another trip a few days ago and stayed in an apartment hotel in the 17th that was very reasonable...about 183 Euros per night for a 1 bed apartment.
