Problem faxing Italy...
Hello,
I am trying to fax Albergo California in Positano about a reservation request and I used their online tool about 16 days ago to submit a request and never heard a thing back from them. I decided to try faxing them this morning. This is what I have been dialing from my fax machine 1 (for long distance) 011 39 089 812 154 The fax will not go through - I keep getting the error report. Does anyone know if I am doing something wrong? Is the 1 for long distance perhaps not necessary (it is necessary for domestic long distance calls). Thanks so much to anyone in the know!! |
You don't need the 1 for long distance.
|
Thanks, I am off to try again without the 1 this time.

Hi TA,
Dialing 011 means it's an international call. That's why you don't need the 1. |
I also suspect that like in much of Europe, you'll also have to drop that 0
before the 89. It's used only when calling from within that country. |
Patrick:
Except for Italy when you have to dial all the numbers, including the first 0, when calling from abroad. |
Hi Patrick,
True in France, not always true in Italy. |
OK, I stand corrected. Just know it's been a common problem of mine calling both France and the UK.
|
It went through, yeah!
Now if only they will respond this time... Thanks so much to everyone who responded. I dialed exactly as I had before and just dropped the 1. |
Just off the top of my head Australia, China and Japan (and I'm sure many others) require that the leading zero be dropped from the area code when calling in from another country.
