Private tour guide for Rome

I have checked the board and two guides, Francesca Caruso and Sonia Tavoletta are booked for tours on my dates this November. Does anyone know where there is a list of individual tour guides? I've checked with a few companies, and the prices are a bit high, and most tours are group tours.
Anyone have names of individual guides that might be available for a tour of the Vatican museums and then another few hours at the Colosseum? I especially wanted someone to help us navigate getting into the Vatican with less of a wait (if that is possible) Maybe there is a list of guides for Rome somewhere??

I have one more name to check.. Paola Bargigli.. has anyone used her as a guide before??

We leave this Sunday(10/28)..I know it's last minute, but any help appreciated!!

Email your hotel in Rome and ask them for recommendations. They would also probably book the guide for you if you ask. Just tell them what you want to do/see.

Thanks Jean, i will give that a try. I'm just afraid it will be pricey. Their car service to the airport was 100euro and i got it elsewhere for 35euro, so I have a feeling it will be pricey to book a guide through them. But i'll give it a shot.
anyone else?

Have you tried Context Rome? They are not especially cheap but I was very impressed with my tours from them.

Thanks, teach... we're hoping for a private guide at no more than 50e/hr. do you remember Context's pricing?
thanks

These names were given me by Francesca Carusso when she was unavailable for our Rome trip. Sonia was also on the list, was the first I contacted, and will be our guide. You might try these other two.

Tell the hotel how much you want to spend.

The tourist web site for the city of Rome lists these contacts for official tour guides.

Check out Daniella Hunt with Mirabilia Urbis Tours. Her website is www.rome-tours.com. We used Daniella for a private tour of the Roman Forum and Colosseum. She was terrific. Extremely knowledgeable,
very passionate, alot of fun. If we are lucky enough to return to Rome some day, I wouldn't hesitate to use her again.

I second the Daniella Hunt recommendation. We used her services just three weeks ago and toured with her for 3 days. She is passionate about her subjects. Her method is to include you so that it is a real learning experience. And, she is funny. We have also used Context:very thorough, very long-but not as good as Daniella.

Hi,
I was in Italy with my husband and three children in July and we had the most amazing tour guide in Rome. We got her name from a friend who went the year before. We toured mostly the forum and colloseum with her, but they did the Vatican and with her, there will be no waiting in line. She is so knowledgable and nice. I recommend her 100 percent.
Her name is Dr. Sylvia Frangipane

I'm bookmarking, too.

We already have a tour guide booked. But I LOVE Dr. Frangipane's name!

Sorry for the delay in replying, but I think mst of Context's tours would be less that 50 Euros per hour.

Another vote for Daniella Hunt. We used her on our first trip in 2001 and loved her. She was enthusiastic and informative.

What really gave her a special place in my heart was this. We had just arrived and I was extremely jet lagged. I had planned this as a special surprise birthday present for my husband and felt that he really did not want to go. I felt totally responsible for making sure he enjoyed himself and overwhelmed on arrival thinking I don't speak the language, I have no idea where anything is, and I don't even understand the money.

We had traveled several times to Spanish-speaking areas where I always felt comfortable since I knew some of the language but Italy? I was in tears. (I know. How silly, right?) Well, we had just checked in to our room and the phone rang. I didn't even want to answer the phone. I mean, how could I communicate???

It was Danielle welcoming us. I just blurted everything out about feeling overwhelmed and she suggested a slow walk down the street to a cafe, a glass of wine, and most importantly.....breathe! What a lifesaver! We laugh so hard at this now having traveled extensively to Italy and France for the past 7 years.

Anyone still reading this thread, efinitely try her. :)

I have also booked Daniella Hunt for tours in Rome -Vatican one day and then the Colesseum tour the next. I have heard wonderful things about her. I also tried Francesca Caruso and she was booked in May and I tried to get her in October. I think I have made a good choice.
