Private Guides in Budapest
Hello,

Has anyone used a good private tour guide in Budapest that you can recommend? We are looking for something like a one-day or 1/2 day general tour of the area, to get our bearings.

We would prefer to not go on one of those 1/2 day bus tours that you can book through the hotel.

Thanks very much.

I returned from Budapest last week, and had Eva Tokody show me Budapest. We spent 8 hours together. Eva is also a contributor to the Fodors Board, and I recommend her highly, if she is available. Her rate is $10 USD per hour and she is worth every penny. I also had dinner with Eva on a subsequent evening, and I found her to be a delightful and interesting dinner companion.

Thanks Leslie! I just finished reading your previous postings, and found the questions you asked and the answers very useful!

I will make a note to use Eva. Do you have her e-mail, or let me know the best way to get in touch with her?

Thanks!

Stacey, if you do a search on Budapest, you should be able to find some posts from Eva. She does post her email address. I would rather not post it here in a message without her permission, so either email me directly and I will give it to you or you can search for it. I'd email it to you directly, but I see that you don't post your email address.

This message is for Leslie. I am hoping that you still check this site because I would like to contact you for Eva Tokody's e-mail address. I am sending you an e-mail and hope that you accept it.

I would like the email addresses of Bela Lukacs and Eva in Budapest
I ahve trried unsuccessfully to contact either of these two people. We are a family of four and will be needing a guide for a couple of days. Thanks Ann |
I have also tried to send an e-mail to Eva recently but have not received a response. Any other recommendations for a tour guide in Budapest? Thanks.

I can't help with individual tour guides, but can make two suggestions:
1- Several tour companies offer excellent tours with multi-lingual guides. I've had good experience with CityRama, although there are others. The only risk is getting a bad guide, or good one on a bad day, but that is rare (but did happen once with another company in another city, but the firm made up promptly. I'd advise against the tours with recorded tapes in 12 languages unless you need the particular language offered, if only for the lack of personal attention. The 1/2 day sightseeing tour of Budapest will give an excellent orientation, and if time permits, the all-day "Danube Bend" tour to Szentendre, Visegrad and Estergom is also worthwhile. 2- Absent other connections, you could contact Vista Travel's "incoming" department. Vista is a good travel agency -- one of the largest there. www.vista.hu |
